Federal Updates
Fed DOL to Issue Rule on Independent Contractors
The Federal Department of Labor (DOL) will issue a proposed rule under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) on the misclassification of employees as independent contractors. With gig economy opportunities being so prominent, it's not surprising that the DOL is looking at the appropriate classification of employees. Under the FLSA, employees are entitled to minimum wage, overtime pay, and other benefits. Independent contractors are not entitled to such benefits, but they generally have more flexibility to set their own schedules and work f or multiple companies. DOL is holding an employer forum on June 24th. We'll pass along a link once available if you'd like to attend.
